2025 Interior Design Trends
One of the best things about working in the Interior design world is watching long forgotten trends come back around. This year is all about bold choices, layered textures and a return to personality to our spaces. This blog post will explore what we predict to be big in 2025, and what items and styles have resurfaced.

What is a predicted interior style trend for 2025?
One trend making a comeback is Maximalist Design where you can really inject your own personality into an interior. Lots of trinkets, personal paraphernalia and eclectic books or prints will really inject a sense of personalisation into a space. Mixing wood tones and colours adds warmth and depth along with mixing materials.
Consumers are becoming more thoughtful with their design choices and intentionally giving new life to older, uniquely crafted pieces. Take inventory of your lives treasures, and instead of storing them away, give them a way to shine centre stage. By showcasing them this also works hand in hand with the "romanticising your life" movement. This movement creates really authentic personal spaces which truly will reflect your personality and represent who you are and how you want to live.

What is thoughtful design?
Leading on from Maximalist design is more thoughtful design. The two styles can easily intertwine. Thoughtful design emphasises a more timeless style aesthetic, with making conscious choices when sourcing furniture. People want spaces that reflect their individual lives - where they've been, what they love, and their history and heritage. Thoughtful design is all about curating layers of meaning - whether through personal collections, interests, unique artwork or vintage furniture.
This could be reusing, upcycling, or seeking out new treasures in second hand or antique shops. More thought is being put on sustainability so giving older already existing pieces a new life can really create a bespoke interesting interior that really tells a story. Many of these spaces spaces will see the use of one off items such as antique furniture mixed with modern accessories. Below we see Pooky lighting used as a feature above a 19th Century florists table.

Is retro making a comeback?
Retro design is seeing a huge surge in popularity. From mid century modern furniture pieces through to dark marbles, darker wood tones and rich paint colours. Vibrant hues from mustard to burgundy are being used in conjunction with abstract wallpapers, textiles and rugs. Adding a pop of colour such as the red lamp below gives a nod to the unexpected red theory. Adding this pop of colour really ties together the scheme and picks out the red hues from the rug and carpet.
Colour blocking is really popular in retro interiors. Dark rich tones provide the perfect backdrop to showcase your vintage furniture and treasures. The use of darker wood tones such as walnut, mahogany and cherry exude a rich elegant feel to a space and have seen a huge increase in popularity this year.

What is Transitional Style?
Also popular this year is Transitional style. This is the concept of adding modern new pieces into a scheme with older vintage, retro and antique pieces. This allows you to have a timeless traditional feel but with a modern twist - ensuring you aren't completely stuck in a timewarp.
Designers are able to create interiors with charm and individuality by using more sustainable pieces paired with modern aesthetics. This trend also reflects the broader movement to more sustainable and thoughtful design by reusing and giving older items a new use and purpose. Sustainability is certainly something people are far more aware of as time goes on and this is reflected in Transitional style.

2025 Trends for Soft Furnishings
You may have seen an increase in the use of drapery and pleated fabrics on soft furnishings, sofas, curtains and cushions. This can be nostaligic for some, as this was a huge part of 1980's-1990's design. Remember those pattern heavy frilled sofas with the fringe trim around the bottom and the pleated lampshades? Well, they are all coming back around.
Cushions with frilly trim, busy patterns and clashing colours will be a big feature this year. You can find plenty of examples of these on the high street already with the likes of H&M Home and Anthropologie jumping on the trend. With a huge varierty of colours, textures and patterns there will be something sure to suit any interior style.

Is Artwork popular now?
Artwork is playing a big role in designs for 2025. A statement piece of art through to carefully curated gallery walls will truly add a layer of sophistication to a space and will prove as a great conversation starter for anyone you may be showing off your space to. Mix and match frames, colours and textures to create a focal point in your room and truly inject your personality into a space.

Are dark colours making a comeback?
You may have seen more darker and richer colour woods and marbles making a comeback on the interior design scene. These hues really do give a nod to Mid Century Modern Design. This era has seen a huge surge in popularity over recent years and is still as popular this year if not more so. Dark colours and a mixture of textures help to create either a modern clean aesthetic, or go even bolder and add them into a colour drenched dark interior for the ultimate moody yet classy interior.
Some really popular woods to look for are Walnut, Mahogany, Oak and Maple. All woods can be stained to your desired tone. These will exude a sense of depth and warmth to your interior. Pictured below is a Mid Century Modern Sideboard - the Kyoto. It's rich depth wood tone and contrasting texture with the Tatami matting add real interest to the piece.

As we step into 2025, interior design embraces warmth, sustainability, and personal expression. From biophilic elements to artisanal one off pieces, spaces are evolving to be more individual and inviting. Whether you favour bold statement interiors or serene minimalism, the key trend is authenticity—creating a home that truly reflects your lifestyle and values.
