We strongly recommend referring to this guide and contacting our team if you are unsure before placing your order.
As Vaunt Design sofas and upholstered items are made to order to your chosen specifications, customers are responsible for ensuring that all product specifications, room measurements, and access requirements are correct prior to ordering.
Please ensure your chosen furniture will fit through all access points, including doorways,
hallways, staircases, lifts, and into the intended room before delivery.
Under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013, made-to-order and personalised goods are exempt from standard 14-day cancellation rights once production has begun. As a result, we are unable to accept returns, cancellations, or exchanges relating to:
- Change of mind
- Incorrect room measurements
- Access restrictions
- Changes to specification after ordering
Failed deliveries resulting from restricted or inadequate access may incur additional delivery, collection, or re delivery charges.
Nothing in these Terms & Conditions affects your statutory rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 relating to faulty, damaged, or misdescribed goods.
In General
1. Measure every access point your sofa will need to pass through, including:
- Front doors
- Internal doors
- Hallways
- Staircases
- Lifts
2. Check the height, width and depth of your chosen sofa.
3. Compare your access point measurements with the sofa dimensions to ensure the sofa will fit.
Remember to allow extra space when rotating or tilting the sofa during delivery.
If unsure, a paper or cardboard template can help visualise whether the sofa will fit through tighter spaces.
Understanding Sofa Dimensions
Width
Measured across the back of the sofa from arm to arm.
Depth
Measured from the back of the sofa to the front edge of the seat.
Height
Measured from the floor to the highest point of the sofa.
Consider this carefully if placing beneath shelving, windows or in front of radiators.
Some of our sofas have removable feet and cushions. They may be taken off to lower the sofa's height to aid installation. See individual product listings for details and dimensions.
IMPORTANT
The sofa height must be less than the width of your narrowest doorway once cushions and feet have been removed. During delivery, sofas are often tilted 90°, making the height the critical access measurement.
Doorways
Measure the width and height of all doorways along the installation route.
Also check for:
- Tight hallway turns
- Radiators
- Door frames and handles
- The average internal doorway is approximately: 198 cm high. 75 cm wide
The diagram below shows how sofas are typically manoeuvred through doorways.
The sofa height must be less than the width of your narrowest doorway with cushions and feet removed (if required).
Full dimension details, including minimum height measurements with feet and cushions removed, are available on each product page.
Rotation & Tilt
Rotating or tilting a sofa will require additional allowance.
When tilting a sofa, remember the overall height increases, so check for:
- Low ceilings
- Light fittings
- Staircase bulkheads
Will It Fit In My Room?
Decide where your sofa will sit and allow enough room for:
- Walkways
- Doors and cupboards opening
- Coffee tables and side tables
- Radiators and shelving
We recommend marking the sofa footprint on the floor using masking tape to better
understand the scale within the room and the remaining space for your other
furniture and walkways.
